Valued for his conviction and perseverance, he leverages his deep knowledge of the industry’s entire value chain to solve problems, evaluate new opportunities, and enhance performance. Throughout his career, he consistently placed his organization at the leading edge of technology and data analytics in both investment and application.

Prior to becoming Chairman of MCA, Ray spent 33 years with The Hartford. He was most recently Executive Vice President of Personal Lines where he led the successful turnaround of the $3.5 billion business unit. He rebuilt the product platform and rating algorithms, secured regulatory approval in all 50 states, and developed and implemented modern sales and service processes to increase efficiency.

Previously, as Senior Vice President and head of the Small Commercial division, Ray developed and implemented next-generation, customer-facing technology for the $3.4B small business insurance provider. He delivered industry-leading profitability through an analytic-driven pricing discipline and established a dominant, long-term competitive advantage.

Prior to those roles, he held other executive leadership roles as Staff Assistant to the Chairman, Senior Vice President of National Accounts, President and Chief Operating Officer of HartRe and Executive Vice President of Strategic Business Development.

Ray has served on multiple boards, contributing discipline, operational methodology, and mentorship. He served as Chairman, Executive Committee Member, and co-chair of the strategic planning committee during his eight-year tenure with Junior Achievement of Southwest New England. He lives in Florida and has been married nearly 40 years to his wife, Linda. He has two sons and recently welcomed his first grandchild into the family.

“How well insurers resolve the “synthesis challenge” – interjecting technology, talent and business models into change-resistant legacy environments – may be the biggest success factor for the industry in the next decade.”

The Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (PAMIC) is a trade association that has proudly represented the Mutual Insurance Industry since 1907.

Our membership comprises some of the most historic companies in the industry, along with new companies who are thriving under the same model.

For more than 120 years NAMIC has been serving in the best interests of mutual insurance companies – large and small – across the United States as well as in Canada. NAMIC membership includes more than 1,400 member companies. The association supports regional and local mutual insurance companies on main streets across America along with many of the country’s largest national insurers. NAMIC member companies write $268 billion in annual premiums and together account for 59 percent of homeowners, 46 percent of automobile, and 29 percent of the business insurance markets.

The Wisconsin Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (WAMIC) is a trade association representing 60 mutual insurers who are based and write in Wisconsin. Most WAMIC member mutual insurance companies were founded in the late 19th century. At that time, large insurance companies would not offer insurance in rural areas, and much of Wisconsin was very rural then. Citizens of smaller communities throughout the state organized their own insurance companies for their mutual protection.
